Youth Council

The Central 9th Youth Council is a year-long youth development program for Salt Lake City teens at Glendale Middle School and East High School to collaborate on promoting community health through youth-led initiatives.

Youth Council exists to:

  • Prioritize youth perspectives in community prevention efforts
  • Amplify youth voices in coalition and community decision-making
  • Cultivare youth leadership in the Salt Lake City community

This group of 10 teens meets weekly with their Advisors to participate in skill development workshops (effective communication, group decision-making, interviewing, public speaking, etc.) and lead community initiatives and service projects to enhance the well-being of SLC youth. Transportation is provided and teens receive a monthly stipend for their contributions.

Who Can Apply?

Members are selected in September by the previous Council. Applications are open to all 8th, 9th, and 10th graders at Glendale Middle and East High who live in Salt Lake City and can commit to the year-long program (October to September).

Applications for next year’s program will open in August 2024.
